Wow its been a while

Hello everybody, its been a while and a crazy year where I've been finishing up on the writing and defending of my thesis, and haven't much felt like writing elsewhere. But, the thesis is almost done and I want to get back to sharing my adventures in knitting and spinning up on the web again. I'm hoping to not only post new project pictures, but also design a few more patterns, show off some spinning and maybe even review a few projects here and there. I'll swing back by with an update in a few days with the stuff thats on the needles, the stuff thats on and coming off the spindle and an assortment of random archaeo-trivia too.

Finding Myself, and Rocking it out

So, this post is neither about Knitting or about Archaeology.... So if you're interested in either, just backpedal out now, However, this needed to be written somewhere.

It is, however about me figuring out some things about myself the last couple of weeks. I think I finally hit something today, heard a quote, from an interview given by David Bowie, "Religion is for people who believe in hell, Spirituality is for people who have been there"
I think that really kind of sums up how I feel I have really stopped considering myself a religious person, perhaps because I learned early on that life is finite, that the bad stuff in life comes with equal frequency to the good, and that no matter what it comes, often when you least expect it. However, I still believe I'm a spiritual person, I find I look at some things and just with faith believe they will work out. I could not do that for a long time, for a wile thought hat the end meant the end.... I don't feel that way so much any more. Though, I think we keep coming back around, reliving lives until we can somehow reconcile all the pieces of ourselves.... I've realized that life works in mysterious ways and I'm ok with that now.

Its funny that finding the music of one person, and listening deep down can affect a person so much, but I think that is the point in some ways. I think the fact that a lot of Bowie's music has to do with being an outsider, on the edge of "normal" society has a lot to do with why it speaks to me, little in my life has been "normal" and I'm ok with that, but sometimes when you see "normal" people doing "normal things" it makes you stop and re-evaluate, but more and more I'm realizing that I'm ok with not being "normal" and if I never meet the perfect guy, get married and have an average of 2.5 kids I don't mind, heck, if my only role is the one I've played I'm ok with that too. Sometimes, you can't plan life, sometimes you just have to roll with the waves or get swept off your feet.

And to close, take from this what you will:

"It amazes me sometimes that even intelligent people will analyze a situation or make a judgement after only recognizing the standard or traditional structure of a piece".~ by David Bowie

Yay Sun!

So, we finally have sun!!!!!!!! wahoooo!!!!. Of course the sun also means that the cat is hogging up the sun, so all of these pictures also feature my lovely cat Ekaterina.

First off we have the baby blanket for my friends at the university who are going to be having a baby early in the late spring I believe. Its coming right along, however, I suspect that the stripes will stop acting so nicely very, very soon. But for the moment, they are absolutely lovely and the knitting is easy! Its in Bernat Baby coordinates self striping in Sprite and Sunny

Next up is the Monkey sock. Ekaterina is attempting to chew on my needles so I had to get this picture off quickly.

I love it, I love the colors,, I love the pattern, it knits up sooo fast. Its the Plymouth Sockotta which is a lovely cotton, wool, nylon blend.

Finally, yarn for my next set of socks. This is the Patons Grace in Tangelo Which is 100% Mercerized Cotton. I think its going to make very nice socks. I'm thinking I'm going to make either the Dublin Bay socks or the Kaylee socks.

I don't know how I got lucky enough to catch Ekaterina's cute little tongue in this picture, but there it is... isn't she the cutest cat ever :-).

Baby Blues

So, the baby blue jaywalkers are coming right along, I've turned the heel of the second sock and am finishing up the heel gusset, and I think that I'm in total, absolute, mad, mad love.

They're coming out great, they kinda quasi match, at least they're striping similarly, so I'm really happy.

These have kinda been my obsession at the moment, so I've really not been knitting much else. I finished another plain stockinette baby hat, but don't have pictures of it as of yet.

School is starting back into full swing this week, so there will probably be a lot less knitting, but I'll probably start having some more archaeologically oriented postings.

Baby Blue Sock done (well 1 of 2)

SOCK 1 is DONE! second sock is cast on, and I've almost got the ribbing done. I probably will have it done later tonight. The yarn started pooling kinda funny around the foot, but it still looks ok, so I'm not complaining. I'm really happy with how it came out.
